Local Highlights - Autumn/Winter
Exmoor is much quieter in the Winter months but there is still so much to do and see.
Local events are organised virtually every week and a warm welcome is assured. Hunting with local packs takes place every day apart from on a Sunday and details of meets are available from the local press.
The first weekend in December is the "Dunster by Candlelight" weekend where all the shops and pubs enter into the spirit of Christmas by lighting the village with hundreds of candles and offering a traditional start to Christmas - trying the mulled wine and the roasted chestnuts is a must! It is a truly special atmosphere reminiscent of all the best of
traditional Christmases of the past and a wonderful place to buy a whole selection of lovely Christmas gifts - you can even watch traditional fudge being made - or see a wide range of flours being milled by candlelight.
Late January and February are "snowdrop time" on Exmoor. Our farm is situated towards the sea end of the nationally famous Snowdrop Valley
and so our farm has it's own drifts of snowdrops growing wild on the river bank but a trip to Snowdrop Valley itself is a breathtaking experience. A park-and-ride bus scheme is run from nearby Wheddon Cross (the highest village on the moor) while the snowdrops are in flower to make access to this lovely spot as easy as possible.
Autumn and Winter visits to the area have their own special charm - some say it is even lovelier in these months so why not make it your choice for a break away from it all!
